Welcome to the new and improved Lucy Parker website.

Here you will find a retrospective exhibition of the work I have done over the last 7 or more years.

I have been a practising artist for 25 years, having taken an odd detour and obtained a degree in Biology first. After a brief stint at Brighton Art College I became an illustrator and have been more or less self taught ever since.

Over the years I have worked in almost every media. I have dabbled in sculpture and I sell my own handmade jewelery, but painting is my true love. Watercolour is my primary medium for all subjects, but I am getting to grips with oils and love them. It is probably my training as a scientist and practice as an illustrator that means I like to paint things that look like things.

Whenever I visit a new place I am always inspired and produce work almost immediately. The latest place to inspire me is the Scottish Highlands.

Once a week I paint a portrait and do life drawing at the Sussex County Arts Club, which I treat as my artistic aerobics.

I have done many commissions over the years ranging from dead dogs to houses to nude portraits. I am willing to do most (artistic) things for money.

I can teach anybody anything. I am currently the tutor at the Dupont Art Group in Hove, and teach at Drawing and Painting for Pleasure at the Whiteway Centre in Rottingdean. I also run my own life drawing and oil painting class.

I give demonstrations of different techniques and run workshops in watercolours, pastels portraits and life drawing.

I have been exhibiting regularly with the Fiveways Artists Group since 1995. The group were the first put on open house exhibitions during the Brighton Festival in May. Having your own large exhibition every year is a great incentive to do work. I have had other exhibitions as well and this year exhibited in Worthing Museum and in the Chichester Open.
